| Art is both relevant and revealing of the artist's own particular state at the time of the artistic expression. Performers can mask their emotions; artists, not always. And among artists, painters tend to be most revealing about their inner selves. If that is a criteria of true art, our painters pass the test. Here are two pairs of paintings by two elephants. Note not only the varying choice of colors (sometimes prompted by the trainer) but the alterations in brush strokes indicating the pachyderms are not merely painting by rote. Similarly, compare other pairs of paintings by single artists throughout this gallery. |
